For couples that are looking for fun date ideas, soulful and revitalizing ways to connect, couples or partner yoga provides a medium to build trust, intimacy, playfulness and romance. Couples learn to connect on that mat through synchronized breathwork, a guided meditation where they can set an intention for their relationship. Later in the practice their is a tandem partner yoga sequence that consists of partner poses where they are assisting, adjusting and mirroring each other. Partner are encouraged to respect their own physical limits and boundaries and not push themselves or their partner into pain by doing a position that is not in their fitness range.
For the yoga newbies, many of the poses are simple to follow so that they will be able to follow along. For seasoned yoga practioners, they will find new variations on classical poses such as warrior, tree, gate, forward folds and side bends. For those that are unathletic or stiff and inflexble most of the poses are suitable for range of body types and fitness levels.
At the end of the partner yoga class there is a guided Thai massage lessons and partners are encouraged to focus on what their intention is and not to be anxious about technique or skill. Partner should be focused on what they want their hands to transmit such as love, healing or relaxation. The massage techniques are easy for newcomers to perform and there are many instructions given on how to tell if your partner is enjoying the masssage such as watching the rise and fall of their diaphram to make sure it is slow and rythmic. You also can sometimes look at your partner’s forehead and make sure it is not all scrunched up. Everyone so often you want to check in on the pressure and make sure it is not too light or painful.
Partner stay fully clothed during the experience and often end the class in a loving embrace where they are encouraged to savor their moment and be focused on their partner and not on anything else that is happening in the class at that point.
After the class you should avoid going to a noisy bar or restaurant since you will be in such a peaceful connected state it will be too jarring. It’s advised to just plan on having a peaceful night with wine, tea, soft music, candles and maybe a guided meditation which are just some of the romantic ideas to continue the evening.
